Glasgow / Ayrshire is the big city with lots to offer the first time visitor along the River Clyde.  It’s modern airport is the jumping off point for thousands of golfers who make a pilgrimage annually to courses near and far.   The scenic coastal region of Ayrshire, home to venerable links courses such as Royal Troon, Prestwick and Turnberry ( Ailsa Course ), each with grand accommodation on or nearby.  Hidden gems such as Western Gailes, Barassie and the new Dundonald courses, add a lot of momentum to any golf visit to the area.   Add the Hidden links gem at Machrihanish and its new sister course Machrihanish Dunes across the Firth of Clyde in Kintyre and you’ll have a tough time leaving the area at all.

Agryll  is home to approximately thirty golf courses, of which ten are located on the surrounding Isles. The wide variety of golf courses in Argyll gives golfing enthusiasts the opportunity of experiencing a different challenge on each course and a new landscape every time they tee off. Of all the courses in this region, three immediately come to mind, namely the Lochgilphead Golf Course, the Machrihanish Golf Course and the Glencruitten Golf Course. Glencruitten Golf Course is hidden amongst the rolling hills on the outskirts of Argyll and the course flows gently and consistently in the shadow of the breathtaking mountains. Machrihanish Golf Course has both a nine and eighteen hole course, together with practice areas. It is a spectacular course and has earned its place in the Golfer’s Digest amongst the top 100 golf courses. Its surroundings of lavish hills and beautiful beaches, makes this course unforgettable.

Prestwick The coastal town of Prestwick, is Scotland's oldest baronial burgh, dating back over a thousand years. The Scottish King, Robert the Bruce, is said to have drunk water here, and Bruce's Well can still be seen today. Prestwick is the birthplace of The Open - the first ever British Golf Open Championship was held at Prestwick Golf Course in 1860. Golf continues to be played over this course and at Prestwick's St Nicholas and St Cuthbert courses.

Troon Just a few miles from Prestwick International Airport, Troon is a small seaside town in Ayrshire that overlooks the Isle of Arran. Known as a golfing hotspot, Troon is home to an incredible seven courses including Royal Troon, which regularly hosts the famous Open Championship. Yachting enthusiasts can take advantage of the facilities at the Yacht Haven, one of the Clyde's leading sailing centres, and sports fans can head to the beach for windsurfing, kitesurfing and more.
